Description

The publication is the second edition of the monograph dedicated to the work of Alberto Cecchetto, a Venetian architect who carried out teaching and research activities at the IUAV Faculty of Architecture of Venice, where he is a full professor of Urban Design. He taught at the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design by Giancarlo De Carlo. He has held design courses, seminars, and conferences at various universities in Europe and America. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of Miami in Coral Gables and a Professor of Architectural Composition at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara. He explored the complexity of the urban project on different themes and scales, subsequently drawing up urban plans and projects for various Italian cities, including the Master Plan of Assisi, the Urban Center of Trieste, the Master Plan of Addis Ababa, and the Maltese Islands. He also designed the implementation plans for Porto Vecchio in Trieste, the waterfront of Riva del Garda, and the new Territorial Plan of Alto Garda Trentino. In architectural design, he explored the complex relationships between places and contexts. He has won numerous national and international competitions, including the new Fusina Terminal in Venice with Arup and Thetis, the Hotel Lido Palace in Riva del Garda, the auditorium in Padua, the auditorium and cultural center in Arco in Trentino, the Luxury Wine Resort in Bibbona in Tuscany and the museum and recreational center of Trentino. He exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennials of 1994, 1996, 2001, 2004, and 2012, at the Rotterdam Biennial in 2005, at the XI International Architecture Biennial of Buenos Aires in 2007, and the II Canary Biennial in 2009. Among the various prizes and recognitions, in 1989, he obtained the Andrea Palladio International Architecture Prize; in 2001, the Dedalo Minosse Prize and the Trentino Architecture Prize; in 2008, he received a mention at the Luigi Piccinato Prize for Urbanism and Territorial Planning; in 2010 the Festival of business cities award, lifetime achievement award as well as the Us Award for the CNR offices and laboratories at the Venice Arsenal. In 2012, he won the First International Ischia Architecture Prize – PIDA, and in 2014, he was the Italian candidate for the Gold Medal of the UIA (International Union of Architects) for his lifetime achievement award in Durban, South Africa.
