Description

In December 2009, a group of teachers and scholars of architecture organized an international conference on housing in emergency situations. The conference elaborated on the growing awareness that housing is still a primary need for more than a billion people living in precarious conditions around the world. The objective and ambition of the conference were to bring the right of everyone to home to the top of the list of problems of the third millennium. The book collects the papers presented at the conference, which investigated both the processes underlying the difficulties of residing in our cities and the problems of housing in unpredictable and catastrophic situations. Taken together, the various contributions articulate the theme of residence in relation to the concept of emergency and highlight the urgent need for a project capable of restoring the dignity of inhabiting.
