The book collects the outcomes of research on protected areas, driven by the desire of exploring the role these play in an era of global change. The publication explores their management methods, with reference to global strategies for risk reduction and territorial cohesion. In particular, the publication examines the role that the local communities, appropriately sensitized and oriented towards co-planning -as recommended by the European Landscape Convention- can play, both by increasing life quality standards and improving socio-economic conditions.
